It says something about the balance of this game that I spent most of my campaign relying on a single weapon, but-well, to get back to the story. Combined with “Rapid Clearance”, a max-level perk that refunds action points every time you kill an enemy, Omar could run from enemy to enemy, making attack after attack, cutting down entire pods of enemies, including enemies that would otherwise take the entire squad a whole turn to kill. It halves the number of action points required for Melee Attacks-melee attacks which already do more damage than most other attacks in the game, and which don't burn expensive ammo to boot. But one augment, the Vengeance Torso is out-and-out broken. Cybernetic augments are soldier upgrades from the Blood and Titanium DLC, and most of them, it turns out, are not worth it, not because they don’t do anything, but because of the expensive repair costs they incur over time. You see, Omar was my cybernetic swordsman. In fact, I had just cleared out most of the invading force in a single turn with my main man, Omar. It was at the 37 hour mark, during my first base defense. I can tell you the precise moment I lost my first campaign. (And thank you to those who pointed out that I spelled Phoenix wrong in the last review) Also, because I forgot to mention this last time, I am playing on Hero difficulty.) Review also assumes some familiarity with the XCOM franchise. (Follow-up to My First 10 Hours with Phoenix Point, which I recommend reading first. If you want the TL DR scroll down to “Is Phoenix Point for me?”)
